SMR London: An Expression of Timeless Luxury

A well travelled young lady, with a taste for the finer things in life Samar Sharbatly sees herself as a citizen of the world, she has been living abroad ever since she was a little girl and now resides in Beirut, where the combination of everywhere is Lebanon. We had a quick interview with her about her new exotic leather goods line "SMR" which is produced and manufactured in London, UK :

Q: How did you become a designer?
SMR: I have always been interested in fashion and with the fast track fashion world mini trends. With summer/winter seasonal trends it would be very expensive to keep up, so I had this idea of creating a timeless collection with long lasting value and style which can be dressed up or down to suit any outing or occasion.

Q:What is the first thing you designed?
SMR: I have been designing for years, mostly personal things which people seemed to compliment and enjoy, that is what motivated me to put my talent to good use. The first thing I designed from the SMR collection was the bag named "Flashy".

Q: How did you come up with your brand name and logo? Why did you decide to call it SMR ?

SMR: SMR is a reflection of me and my style, and it is a result of my love for fashion accessories. As for the logo, well SMR is just an abbreviation of my name, Samar.

Q: What inspires you/your work?

SMR: Lately I have been very inspired by street style /fashion and by some of my favourite fashion editors. I am also inspired by my travels, my friends etc...

Q: This is your first collection, describe it to us?

SMR: SMR is timeless, so every item in the collection is a carry over style. That is what makes the pieces an investment. I want SMR to be a reflection not only of me, but of every stylish fashion-forward woman, looking for originality and collection pieces that will make her stand out.

Q: What is your favourite piece from this collection?

SMR: Its is hard to say as each item from the collection is designed from the heart and with originality in mind. Therefore every item has something unique and is convenient as it can be worn for any occasion.

Q: What area of your work do you enjoy the most?

SMR: I enjoy every aspect of the creation process, from choosing the skins to choosing the colours. But by far what I enjoy the most is seeing the end result and being able to see my designs carried and used.

Q: Finally, what is the one item that every woman should have in her closet?

SMR: Apart from SMR? :) A little black dress!
