She went on to study fashion and textiles at Lichfield’s School of Art and Leeds College of Art & Design where she realised she had a keen eye for fashion designing and wanted to create her own women’s contemporary fashion label. Bijou Boudoir was in the making.
It was during Gemma’s final graduate collection that the Bijou Boudoir concept ‘one size fits all’ was born. Inspired by obesity obsessed young artist, Jenny Saville, Gemma created a beautiful collection to suit women of every shape and size. Understanding that this was a concept that most women could relate to Gemma decided to realise her dreams and set up Bijou Boudoir in her parent’s spare room soon after her graduation.
By many industry professionals Gemma’s eye for fabrics is her forte and she incorporates this expertise into her designs where Gemma mixes and matches various fabrics to create unique and innovate designs. She cleverly drapes and manipulates fabric to create voluminous pieces which are tapered in just the right places to create striking silhouettes. A selection of Bijou Boudoir's styles are now available at the boutique in limited quantites.
